Firefighters with the Saanich Fire Department rescued a man from Mount Douglas on Saturday morning after he collapsed at the summit.

A man was rescued after he collapsed while hiking a popular mountain in Greater Victoria.

At around 6:48 a.m. Saturday, crews with the Saanich Fire Department responded to reports of a man who collapsed at the summit of Mount Douglas after experiencing possible cardiac arrest.

Platoon Capt. Mitch Williams of the Saanich Fire Department told CHEK News, three to four firefighters went to the top of Mount Douglas and located the man.

“They initiated CPR … and they managed to resuscitate him,” said Williams.

BC Ambulance Service also responded to the scene and eventually transported the man to a nearby hospital.

Williams said he is unaware of the man’s condition at this point.
