Nanaimo RCMP are looking to speak to a man who reportedly brandished a knife after a woman’s dogs approached him.

Police said the incident happened at Colliery Dam Park at around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

A woman told police she and another woman, along with her young child in a stroller, a Labrador and a puppy, were walking in an off-leash area of the park when the Labrador approached a man. The woman said the man began yelling at her to keep her dog in check and a knife was clearly visible in hand. She left the park and reported the interaction to police.

Officers went to the park but did not find the man.

Police said at this time, they would like to speak to the man to hear his version of events. The woman said the man did not directly threaten the group or make any movements toward them or say anything, which would indicate he meant them harm.

The man is described as Caucasian, 65-years-old with white hair and a green-style jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
