Mounties in Parksville are seeking help from the public following an alleged sexual assault that saw a man slap a female’s buttocks before pulling down his own pants.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday, near the playground at Rathtrevor Beach, according to Oceanside RCMP in a news release.

They say the man, who was unknown to the female, ran past her before allegedly slapping her “on the buttocks, then pulled down his own pants, exposing his bare buttocks, then continued running and disappeared along the forested trail.”

RCMP say the man is believed to be in his early 30s. He’s described as Caucasian, standing around 5’10” with a medium build and a big, bushy, dark beard.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a baseball cap, a black hoodie, grey sweatpants and dark shoes, added Mounties in the release Wednesday.

Anyone in the area at the time who saw someone matching the man’s description is asked to call the Oceanside detachment at 250-248-6111, quoting file #2024-2829.

A local tourism website says Rathtrevor Beach, accessed via Rath Road, “is one of the province’s most popular family destinations.” BC Parks says it’s a busy spot for year-round camping.
