A mushroom picker who was reported missing in the Campbell River area Tuesday was found deceased the same day, according to Campbell River RCMP.
The missing man, who was in his 60s, was found by police officers shortly after the initial call reported him missing. He had died prior to being located.
Campbell River SAR helped RCMP with the search. The investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service and police say the man’s death is not considered suspicious.
Police are now reminding the community to always have a plan before going into the backcountry. It is recommended you let someone know where you’re going, let someone know when you’ll be back, use a GPS or a map, and be prepared to spend the night in the woods if something goes wrong.
The man’s name has not been released.
