First responders were called to the intersection of the highway at Norwell Drive at around 9:30 p.m. after an on-duty patrol officers witnesses the collision.

That officer attempted first aid on the injured man until paramedics transported him to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Witnesses say the man was trying to cross southbound lanes of the intersection when he was hit by a southbound vehicle, an older-model grey Toyota Camry.

The driver, a man in his early 20s, stopped his vehicle “a short distance away” and cooperated with investigators, according to RCMP. Mounties ruled out alcohol as a possible factor and the man’s car has been seized and will undergo a mechanical inspection.
