A 60-year-old man died after he was struck by a driver on Jan. 3, 2022 near the intersection of 6th Ave and Redford St.

Port Alberni RCMP say a 60-year-old man died after he was struck by the driver of an unspecified vehicle on Tuesday morning.

On Jan. 3 at 7:40 a.m., RCMP were called to the intersection of 6 Ave and Redford St. for a report a pedestrian had been hit.

Police and BC Emergency Health Services responded, and the man was taken to the hospital where he later died.

RCMP officers are investigating and have spoken with the driver.

“As the nights stay long, and the fog and poor weather continues, we encourage drivers to take a little extra care, and take a few moments longer to get to their destinations,” Const. Richard Johns said in a news release.

Anyone with dash cam footage of the area around the time of the collision is asked to call the Port Alberni RCMP Detachment at 250-723-2424.
