Port Alberni RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the 3900 block of Roger St. on April 25, 2023.

One man has died, and another has been arrested after a stabbing in Port Alberni earlier in the week.

On April 25, police were called to a report of a stabbing in the 3900 block of Roger St.

Officers located the victim, a 59-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

“Despite the efforts of emergency medical staff, the victim was pronounced deceased at a local hospital a short time later,” Const. Richard Johns said in a news release.

“These events are tragic for not only the family and friends of the victim, but the community as whole. Officers from our Indigenous police section have reached out to the community and are working with the family of the victim to ensure they have the supports they need at this time.”

The suspect, a man in his 60s, was arrested.

Port Alberni’s Major Crime Unit is now taking over the investigation.

Police say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public.
