Man dead after assault with weapon in Victoria: police

Victoria police say a man is dead after an assault with a weapon last week.

On Monday, March 16th, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers were called to an apartment building in the 3000-block of Douglas Street following a report that a man was injured after being assaulted with a weapon.

Police said the man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remained in critical care.

Police arrested the assault suspect at around 11 p.m. in the 3100-block of Douglas Street.

The man who was injured died in hospital on March 25.

Police believe that the victim and the suspect were known to each other and the assault was an isolated incident.

Police said they do not believe that there is a risk to public safety.

The death is now being investigated as a homicide by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU).

The man’s name and age has not been released.
