The West Shore RCMP are on the lookout for a man who allegedly pushed his way into a Langford home and pulled out a handgun on Friday.

Mounties say the home invasion was reported around 4:50 p.m. in the 3000-block of Glen Lake Road.

The victim told police that a man had pushed his way into their front door after they had opened it because he was trying to “determine why the victim’s dogs were barking.”

Once the suspect was inside the home, police say the dogs “challenged” the man, at which point he pulled out a black handgun.

The man did not use the gun and fled the home shortly after. He was last seen running towards Aloutte Drive from Glen Lake Road.

Mounties say the victim was not physically injured in the incident.

Extensive search

RCMP say they arrived at the home within minutes of the report, and a police dog was used to try to find the suspect. However, the man was not located at the time.

Investigators spoke with neighbours and are now searching for surveillance video of the area.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20’s to early 30’s with a slim build who stands approximately 5’6″ to 5’8″ tall. He is clean shaven and has short to medium-length dark hair.

He has a small red mark, about the size of a dime, that may be a scar or birthmark on his right cheek and lower jaw. He was wearing a black hat, black jacket, grey shirt, dark pants and athletic-style footwear with black and white stripes at the time.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect is asked to call the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

Police are also asking residents in the neighbourhood to review their home surveillance footage from Dec. 1 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Mounties say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Police add that the suspect and victim were not known to each other and that the incident is believed to be isolated.
