Oak Bay Police says a man has been arrested after he threw rocks at police and broke the windshield of a police vehicle.

On March 11 shortly after 10:30 p.m., police were called to the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Road for reports that a man was throwing rocks at windows.

When police arrived, they found several businesses with broken windows, and found the 41-year-old man across the road from the businesses.

After police told the man he was under arrest, the man threw a rock at the police officer, who ducked and avoided being hit. The man threw another rock and damaged the front windshield of the police vehicle.

Police then warned the man they would use a conducted energy weapon (CEW), at which point the man surrendered and was taken into custody without the need to use the CEW.

The total estimated damages are $4,000.

The man was held in custody and appeared in court, then was released with conditions. He has been charged with two counts of mischief, assault against a police officer and assault with a weapon.
