Man arrested in Nanaimo charged in violent Sicamous home invasion

A man who allegedly assaulted and robbed a terminally-ill woman in Sicamous was arrested in Nanaimo Tuesday.

Police said on Oct. 24, two men armed with handguns forced their way into a residence on Kappel Street in Sicamous. A female suspect allegedly waited outside the residence.

A 59-year-old woman who is terminally ill with cancer was held at gunpoint and kicked in the face during the home invasion, police said. Two small safes, jewelry and prescription drugs were also stolen.

The woman suffered a fractured nose and was treated by BC Ambulance Service.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Ford Dually pickup truck, which was later located on Oct. 26. Then on Oct. 30, a 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the home invasion.

Robert Bomba, 37, has been charged with forcible confinement, disguising the face while committing an offence, assault causing bodily harm, break and enter, failing to comply with probation, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Bomba was also arrested by Nanaimo RCMP on two outstanding arrest warrants from the Sicamous RCMP. The warrants were for charges of failing to Comply with probation and driving while prohibited. He appeared in court in Nanaimo on Oct. 30.
