Around 8 p.m. Friday night, a man who allegedly stole a TV from the Walmart at Uptown and tried to leave in a taxi was arrested by Saanich Police.
Cst. Markus Anastasiades, media information officer with Saanich Police, says the 49-year-old man was arrested while getting into a taxi outside of a nearby business.
“The man had walked across Douglas Street to a nearby parking lot and placed the television inside a taxi. A Saanich Police officer attended the parking lot and located the man and arrested him for theft under $5,000,” Anastasiades said.

Once he was arrested, officers learned he also had an outstanding warrant for another incident.
The man was held in police custody until a court appearance.
Anastasiades says the TV was returned to the store.
