Saanich Police officers arrested a man who smashed the front window of a store then stole $5,000 in clothes Sunday morning.

On Dec. 17, just before 1 a.m., police were contacted by Uptown Security, who had seen the man smash the front window with a rock at Urban Trail.

The man then entered the business, stole the clothing, and fled the area on foot.

Police responded to the area and found him hiding in the bushes near the Galloping Goose Trail by Ravine Way.

“He was taken into custody with the assistance of SPD officers who happened to be conducting an Impaired Driving Counterattack nearby,” Sgt. Damian Kowalewich said in a news release.

Over $5,000 in clothing and other items from the store was recovered.

Devin Clayton, 23, was charged with break and enter. He is expected to have a court date in the “near future.”
