Victoria police say a man in his 60s was arrested after he reportedly committed an indecent act while sitting next to a young girl on a BC Transit bus last week.

Police say that on March 27, officers launched an investigation after receiving a tip that a man had been committing indecent acts while riding buses in the city.

The next day, police say officers wearing plain clothes boarded a BC Transit bus and saw the suspect commit an indecent act while sitting next to a 12-year-old girl.

The man, Timothy Bush, was arrested as he tried to leave the bus.

Police say Bush is facing two recommended charges, including one count of committing an indecent act and one count of exposing genitals to a minor.

He remains in police custody until his next court date. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Victoria police encourage all survivors of sexual offences to come forward.

“It takes an immense amount of courage to report sexual offences, and sexualized violence incidents are underreported,” said VicPD in a release Thursday.

“Our message to those that have been victims of sexualized violence or indecent acts continues to be, “We Believe You” and we are here to support you.”
