Man arrested after attempted theft of City of Victoria vehicle leads to early morning collision

The Victoria Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred early on Wednesday morning after a man attempted a vehicle theft that ultimately led to a single-vehicle collision.

According to VicPD traffic collision investigators, officers were called to the 900-block of Pandora Avenue at approximately 4:20 a.m. on the morning of June 9.

Reports suggested that there had been a single-vehicle collision in the area.

In addition to the report of the crash, police were informed that several bystanders were attempting to restrain a person related to the collision.

Once police arrived on scene, they learned that a suspect had allegedly attempted to steal a City of Victoria vehicle.

According to a report, a City of Victoria staff member attempted to intervene in the theft, which resulted in the vehicle colliding with a street light and a curb.

Police say the suspect attempted to flee the scene following the collision, however, several bystanders took action to restrain the man until frontline officers showed up.

When officers arrived on scene they arrested the suspect. The suspect and the victim were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The file is currently under investigation.
