One man suffered serious burns after his home caught on fire Saturday near Ladysmith.
North Oyster firefighters responded to a house fire on Deer Point Road on Stz’uminus First Nation land shortly after 1 p.m.
When they got there they were told everyone was out of the house, but one occupant was severely burned before firefighters arrived.
BC Ambulance airlifted him from a location near the home to a Victoria hospital.

When firefighters did get to the home there were flames coming through the roof and on the deck.
Firefighters put the fire out and North Oyster Fire Chief Florian Schulz says the home is likely a write-off.
Schulz says the fire started outside the home, likely by some smokers, where neighbours say the occupant was preparing to smoke some fish.
