A logging truck crash partially closed a section of Highway 19 north of Campbell River Tuesday morning.

According to Drive BC, the crash happened at Barge Terminal Road, approximately eight kilometres north of Campbell River. Drive BC tweeted about the crash at 11:15 a.m.

The collision did close the highway northbound but 11:36 a.m., Drive BC reported the highway was open to single-lane alternating traffic northbound.

There were major delays in the area before the highway fully opened just after 3 p.m.

“We’re two hours away from hitting the dock to get on a boat that’s going to go on a cruise for five days. The boat’s not gonna wait for us so this is kind of slowing us down a lot,” Rodney Gamber, a tourist from Washington state said while waiting.

There were no detours around the crash since Highway 19 links the north Island to Campbell River. The spilled logs also had to be cleaned up after they snapped trees across the highway.

Damian Giard, road manager for Mainroad Campbell River, said the truck rolled after coming around a corner. The driver was not injured and his coworkers came with machinery to clear the highway and clean up spilled fluids.
