Local boy Musselwhite’s mature play bolsters HarbourCats bullpen

At just 17 years of age, Victoria HarbourCats pitcher Mike Musselwhite closed out the team’s first ever WCL playoff win on Tuesday night.

The Lambrick Park Secondary student was a mid-season call up from the Victoria Eagles PBL team, and has been outstanding in the six innings he’s pitched since the call-up. The left handed reliever recorded the final six outs against the Kelowna Falcons in Game 1 of their North Division playoff series at Royal Athletic Park.

As the HarbourCats get set for their WCL Championship Series against the Corvallis Knights, ‘Cats bench boss Brian McRae says he won’t be hesitant to call Musselwhite’s number if the opportunity comes about.

“he’ll be one of the first guys out of the bullpen,” McRae says, “he’s shown that he can handle it and I don’t think the magnitude of the game is going to make it any different. Every game we’ve put him in has been must win or a playoff like game, so this will be just another outing for him.”

The HarbourCats begin their series tomorrow night at R.A.P. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
