Lantzville finally has a waterfront park.

The District of Lantzville announced Monday that it has purchased 3.25-hectare property on Sabre Road for$1,401,750 and will transform it into a marine park available for public use.

The property has been renamed Pierce Woods Marine Park as a result of the purchase.

“Council is excited that our community will benefit from this park acquisition for generations,” Lantzville Mayor Mark Swain said in a press release.

Lantzville has been seeking property along its waterfront in order to create a park for years. Though the community has plenty of road end access points to the beach, there is no official waterfront park.

“Pierce Woods Marine Park is one of the most important legacies that council will leave this community. Green space is a cherished asset in our community and its protection will benefit the environment,” said Swain.

The district purchased the property from the Woods Foundation Trust, which was established years ago by Audrey Joan Editha Woods, who once owned the Sabre Road property but leased it to the Pierce Family until the recent sale.

“The Pierces have cared for and occupied the cherished property for over 50 years, raising their families as pillars of the Lantzville community. The recent sale of 8306 Sabre Road by the Woods Foundation to the District of Lantzville who will develop a marine park, is a long-held goal and dream of the Woods Foundation. The Pierces are delighted that Sabre Beach will be enjoyed by all for generations to come,” a representative for the Woods family said in a press release.

The park’s name is taken from the last names of the two families.

The District of Lantzville is asking the public to stay away from the park for now as they are required to assess any “existing liabilities on the property” and must consider parking access and other improvements prior to public use.
