WatchLake Cowichan's gone country this weekend, as thousands roll into town and stomp their cowboy boots at sunfest. Pumping a huge impact into the tiny town. Skye Ryan reports.

Around 40,000 people are expected to show up in Lake Cowichan this weekend for Sunfest Country Music Festival.

Crowds will take in the packed schedule of outdoor concerts and enjoy a massive camp-out at Laketown Ranch.

“The atmosphere is infectious there is definitely a lot of excited people I think people plan for this weekend all year round, which you can see with some of the camps we have on site,” said Mike Hann, Sunfest festival manager.

“Everything is super positive and people are having a great time.”

Sunfest is a party, but is also huge business for Lake Cowichan, as tens of thousands seek places to eat and spend their days before music starts up each night.

“So good for the economy, like we depend on it, this weekend is what keeps out business open,” said Meaghan Mckechnie, with Orka Tube Rentals.

“It’s the most insane weekend of the year every year. Every business here especially the summertime businesses we ramp up for Sunfest every year. It’s the most important, it is crazy, absolutely insane, we sell out every single time.”

The fun and music will continue through Lake Cowichan until Monday. More details on the event can be found here
