Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Store has closed until mid-December after three volunteers tested positive for COVID-19.

A thrift store in central Vancouver Island has closed temporarily due to COVID-19.

Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Store, located on French Street, announced that it has closed until Dec. 14 after three volunteers tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to the store, one volunteer employee, who last worked on Nov. 16, tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 26 and then an additional two volunteers tested positive for the virus on Nov. 28.

“We are taking this situation very seriously and on Nov. 28 we made the decision to close the thrift store for two weeks,” the Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Store said in a social media post on Nov. 30, adding. “During our closure, all surfaces will be sanitized. We are in the process of contacting all volunteers who have been in close contact with the infected volunteers.”

The volunteers have since been in contact with public health and are self-isolating, according to the store.

The Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Store is asking those who volunteered or shopped between Nov. 16-28 to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and call 811 if needed.
