Police say a man crossing the Trans-Canada Highway was struck by a pickup truck Thursday afternoon

RCMP are investigating a collision between a mobility scooter and a pickup truck that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Ladysmith RCMP say they received reports of a collision just after 3 p.m. on Thursday and when officers arrived, they found an elderly man being treated by Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance.

Police say the man was using a mobility scooter and had crossed westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway, from Ludlow toward 1st Avenue, prior to the collision.

They say the truck turned left onto the highway and hit the man on the mobility scooter, knocking it over.

“Both the scooter and the pickup truck have been seized for further inspection,” said Cpl. Chris Manseau, BC RCMP spokesperson,  “The scooter driver was transported by BC Ambulance to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the driver has fully cooperated with the investigation.”

Police say the Trans-Canada Highway was closed for almost two hours while an investigation of the scene took place.

Police are asking for witnesses of the collision to call Ladysmith RCMP at (250) 245-2215.
