Residents of Ladysmith are being advised of a change at their local health-care facility.

Starting June 1, patient registration at Ladysmith Community Health Centre’s urgent care clinic will be between 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day.

Previously, the clinic operated for an extra hour — until 10:30 p.m.

Island Health says the urgent care clinic in Ladysmith has seen, on average, less than one patient per day arriving after 9:30 p.m. It adds that the change better aligns with the Oceanside Health Centre’s hours.

“…this adjustment will help ensure physicians and staff can provide access to safe and sustainable care during peak hours,” reads a release Tuesday.

Those in need of care outside of the new operating hours are advised to attend either the Cowichan District Hospital or Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, which are both open 24 hours a day.

Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should dial 911.

If you’re unsure of a medical situation, you can always speak to a registered nurse any time by calling HealthLink BC toll-free at 811.
