Rana had been in a coma since Wednesday and authorities say he died in intensive care at Victoria General Hospital on Saturday night.

Rana leaves behind a four-year-old son and a wife who is expecting twins. He was a chef at the Sizzling Tandoor restaurant and his co-workers set up a GoFundMe page to help with the family’s expenses.

Donations have reached more than $80,000.

Saanich police are still trying to determine the cause of the crash and say these types of investigations can take several months to process all available evidence. Members of the Saanich Police Crash Analyst Team were on the scene for several hours after the incident to collect evidence.

A 25-year-old woman was driving the Suburban and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
