K-9 police dog catches break and enter suspect in Langford

K-9 police dog Erik located a break and enter suspect on Nov. 16

Westshore RCMP say one of their K-9 police dogs caught a break and enter suspect on Nov. 16. in Langford.

Police say they were called to a possible break and enter at a residence on Strathmore Rd at 8:54 p.m. on Nov. 16.

According to the RCMP a suspect was seen trespassing on a neighbour’s property.

When officers arrived, K-9 police dog “Erik” located the suspect hiding in a shed on the property.

The suspect, a 45-year-old homeless man, was taken into custody without incident. He was later released and officers took him to a homeless shelter.

“Our K-9 unit is an invaluable asset to policing here on the West Shore,” said Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP, Media Relations Officer. “Erik located the suspect within minutes of being deployed. The suspect did not gain entry to the home and the property was not damaged.”
