Arguments concluded in a Victoria courtroom Friday as the District of Saanich and the province seek an injunction to remove campers from a tent city in Regina Park.

The judge in the case will deliver a decision on Sept. 7.

The district said in the meantime, Saanich fire and parks departments, with Saanich police, will continue regular site visits to attempt to mitigate fire and life safety risks in the park.

On July 23, the district started legal proceedings to get an injunction that would require Regina Park to be immediately vacated to allow for fire risks or other hazards in the park to be addressed. It would also require that any park use is limited to Saanich’s bylaws.

There are roughly 110 people currently residing in 100 tents at the Regina Park encampment residents call Camp Namegans. The encampment was established in early May.
