‘It was crazy’: Video shows wrong-way driver on Pat Bay Highway

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are seeking witnesses after a car was seen going the wrong way on the Pat Bay Highway, nearly hitting other vehicles.

Mounties were alerted to the wrong-way driver around 2 p.m. Wednesday, when a red Audi was in the southbound lanes but being driven north against traffic.

“Definitely driving dangerously,” according to RCMP Cpl. Andres Sanchez Flores, who says the ordeal happened near Beacon Avenue in Sidney.

He says the incident resulted in no accidents, and while police patrols investigated, they couldn’t find the vehicle or its driver.

“I believe they (had a) do not enter sign, but they kept going and ended up on the highway,” said Batista Salem, who captured video of the incident.

In Salem’s video, the car is in the middle of the southbound lanes. Then, it’s next to the centre median, where the driver of an oncoming commercial vehicle veers to avoid a collision.

“They (seemed) scared and kept hitting the curbs a few times,” added Salem in an interview with CHEK News.

“It was crazy. Everyone was shocked.”

Anyone with information can contact RCMP at 250-656-3931.
