WATCH: Campbell River’s Mackenzie Padington swept the podium at the National Trials in Toronto this weekend, capturing 1st place in the 400, 800 and 1500 metre freestyle events.

The win opens up multiple opportunities for the Claremont Secondary grad, but the 20-year-old, who currently swims for the NCAA’s Minnesota Gophers will turn her attention to the upcoming FINA Aquatic World Championships in South Korea this July. Padington idolized fellow Victoria swimmer Ryan Cochrane, and with the men’s competitor now retired, Padington will look to carry on the torch of Victoria long-distance freestyle swimming prowess.
