A Comox Valley man has released a rap music video celebrating many communities on Vancouver Island.

“I just wanted to give something back to the place that’s given so much to me you know, it’s a place worth celebrating,” said Eric Ettinger, a married 42-year-old father and support worker for special needs adults.

The song is a unique compilation celebrating places on Vancouver Island and shows Ettinger who goes by the musical name of Oktiv6 in places like Campbell River, tubing on the Puntledge River and walking a beach on Tree Island.

“You know because I think that’s a lot of the appeal, people hear their town and they’re excited, that’s my town, there’s a song about my town because we don’t all get that if you live in a small community or a place like any of these places,” said Ettinger.

The song is called Courtenay Love and has garnered over 13,400 views on Youtube.

Ettinger admits the similarity to American singer-songwriter Courtney Love’s name might be helping.

“Oh I loved it,” said Annie Luke when she was showed the video in Comox Tuesday. “I like the transitions, I really like that you’re going down Puntledge and doing things that Islanders do.”

“Yeah it really showcases the wide variety of environments on the island which is cool,” added James Coffin.

“It’s neat. I’ve been to most of those places and done a lot of those things and it was so cool to see it in the music video,” said Katie Cullen.

Tubing in the Puntledge River figures prominently in the video and while Eric couldn’t name every place on the Island he did manage to squeeze in over 35.

A British Columbia forestry company is in court applying for a one-year extension of an injunction against ongoing old-growth logging protests on southern Vancouver Island.
