Island Health has issued an overdose advisory for Nanaimo and Campbell River.
The health authority says injection and inhalation of opioids or stimulants both have an increased risk of overdose and recommends carrying Naloxone in case of an overdose.
For those in Nanaimo, drugs can be checked at 437 Wesley St. on Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In Campbell River, drugs can be checked at 5-1330 Dogwood St. on Friday from 1-5 p.m.
Island Health also advises starting with a small amount and then waiting to see how it feels before using more. It also recommends only taking one substance at a time.
In the event someone overdoses, the health authority recommends calling 911 and staying with the person overdosing, administering naloxone, and giving one breath every five seconds.
