Island Health has 334 new confirmed cases of COVID; 2,364 in province

B.C. health officials are announcing 2,364 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, 334 of which are in Island Health.

There are 33,997 active cases in the province, 2,024 in Island Health.

Since the last update, nine people have died due to COVID-19. One person was in Island Health, four in Fraser Health and four in Vancouver Coastal Health.

There is a record high number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, with 924 COVID-positive individuals in hospital. There are 130 people in intensive care.

In Island Health, there are 65 people hospitalized with COVID, and 11 people in intensive care.

There are three new healthcare outbreaks in Island Health at Echo Village, Mount St. Mary Hospital, and Arrowsmith Lodge.

Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, the province has administered 10,334,333 doses of the COVID vaccines.

This amounts to 89.4 per cent of people aged five and older having received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine, 83.5 per cent have received a second dose.

From Jan. 13-19, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 27.6 per cent of cases, and from Jan. 6-19, they accounted for 30.9 per cent of hospitalizations.

In the other health authorities, in Fraser Health there are 686 new cases, 499 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 655 in Interior Health, 190 in Northern Health, and no new cases in people who normally reside outside Canada.
