Consumers are about to get a new way of identifying food products grown or produced here on Vancouver Island.
The Island Good label will soon appear in Country Grocer, Thrifty Foods, 49th Parallel Grocery and Quality Foods across Vancouver Island.
The program has been developed by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.
Organizers say not only does buying island products help food security, it helps the economy.
“If more people are aware of food products that are made and grown on Vancouver Island and can find those in the grocery store that they are in, that will increase demand for those products. That increases the volume of sales that leads to more jobs, more economy, more investment in food production on Vancouver Island and we think that’s a good thing to do,” George Hanson of the Vancouver Island Ecnomic Alliance said.
The Island Good program will run until September.
