Investigation underway after suspicious fire at Alberni Inn

Port Alberni RCMP say an early morning fire at the Alberni Inn on Redford Street is considered suspicious.

At around 1 a.m. Friday, Port Alberni RCMP received a report of an alarm at the Alberni Inn. This was followed by multiple reports of flames at the location.

Police said the property owner was alerted to the fire and successfully extinguished the bulk of the fire. The Port Alberni Fire Department put out the remainder of the fire and then did safety checks.

Port Alberni RCMP and a fire investigator are investigating the fire as a suspicious fire. Closed-circuit video in the area is being reviewed.
