An elderly man was rescued by search and rescue crews in Strathcona-Westmin Provincial Park Friday after he was found injured.

Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue posted to social media about the incident and says the elderly man was hiking alone when he injured himself and was unable to continue.

Two hikers eventually came across him and called for help.

Two of Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue’s members were flown into the park by a B.C. RCMP Helicopter. The hiker was treated on scene before being flown out and transferred to B.C. Ambulance.

Around 15 other members were waiting at Raven Lodge on Mount Washington incase a helicopter extraction was not possible.

The volunteer search and rescue organization is reminding those who are heading into the backcountry to remember the three T’s.

  • Trip plan
  • The essentials (including a means of communication)
  • Training (The days are getting shorter and the nights colder, be prepared for any outcome)
