Independent Investigations Office looking into incident involving Nanaimo RCMP

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC — an independent civilian oversight agency of the police in the province — has launched an investigation involving an incident that took place in Nanaimo.

According to a report from the IIO, the investigations office is looking into an incident that took place on September 23, 2021, at approximately 1:50 a.m.

Nanaimo RCMP has informed the IIO that officers responded to a request for assistance regarding a male in crisis at a residence in the 1500-block of Extension Road.

Officers arrived on the scene and took the man into custody, however, during the incident, the man sustained a non-life-threatening injury.

Emergency Health Services then attended the scene as well and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment.

The IIO was advised of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation into the incident.
