An aircrew from a naval air station on Whidbey Island has been grounded following an indecent display in the skies over Washington State on Nov. 16.

The U.S. Navy aircrew allegedly drew a phallic object in the skies with vapour trails, causing a stir among residents who posted the act on social media.

Commanders at the air station were reported to not see the humor in the act, and have ordered an inquiry.

A release by the U.S Navy states that they “Have grounded the aircrew and are conducting a thorough investigation,” and that “the Navy apologizes for this irresponsible and immature act, and anyone who was offended by this unacceptable action,” reports the Seattle Times.

Whidbey Island is located 50 Kilometres south-east of Greater Victoria. The aircraft involved, a Boeing EA-18G Growler, has been the source of many complaints in Greater Victoria in the past, as many residents blame often heard noise and vibrations on the aircraft’s flight operations.
