The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating after a man unexpectedly collapsed in Nanaimo RCMP holding cells.
In a release, the IIO says around 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 10, a man in custody collapsed and was brought to the hospital by Emergency Health Services.
At the hospital, it was determined the man had a serious injury. The IIO says it was notified the same day as the incident.
The IIO is now investigating the sequence of events that led up to the person suffering the injury, then will determine if police played any role in the injury.
