‘I know that something’s wrong’: Friends of missing Nanaimo woman hold vigil for Sherry Corrigal

Friends and family of missing Nanaimo woman Sherry Corrigal lit candles to brighten up her missing poster in Maffeo Sutton Park Sunday.

They held on tight to one another at a vigil for the 22-year-old.

“Sherry is like my child. It’s like I’m missing an arm right now. I need her back,” Corrigal’s foster mother, Samantha Agnew, told CHEK News.

“She had a heart of gold, she would help anybody,” said longtime friend of Corrigal’s Marvin Mobey.

Yet the young woman who dreamed of becoming a nurse one day and was in close contact with loved ones hasn’t been seen or heard from since Sept. 11.

In addition, the missing woman has had no social media activity or banking transactions since, according to Corrigal’s foster mother.

“If she were out there she would phone us, because she’d phone us every day,” said Mobey.

“She wouldn’t let us worry about her. She would be worried about us worrying about her. So I know that something’s wrong,” said Easterbrook.

According to Easterbrook, Corrigal was going through personal problems at the time of her disappearance and of no fixed address when an ex-boyfriend says he dropped her off at Franklyn and Selby Streets in Nanaimo’s downtown.

Six months have passed, and despite Nanaimo RCMP forming a full-time team of investigators to search for her, what happened to her remains a mystery.

“It’s extremely out of character for her to have no contact with her friends and family,” Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told CHEK News on Jan. 10.

“I don’t want anybody to forget her. I wanna know where she is. I don’t want this to turn into another Lisa Marie Young, where they don’t know 20 years later,” said Easterbrook.

“There’s a lot of girls that have been missing. Just hopefully, she’s out there still,” said Mobey.

Missing posters have been put up in Nanaimo’s downtown, searching for tips, and Corrigal’s worried loved ones are urging anyone with information about the young woman’s disappearance to share it with RCMP.
