A dead humpback whale has washed ashore off the BC Ferries terminal in Tsawwassen.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada went to the area at around 11 a.m. The department’s Marine Mammal Response Team is now working with the Tsawwassen First Nation to move the carcass to another spot so a necropsy can be done. Officials think the whale was likely a juvenile.
BC Ferries posted on Twitter that traffic at the terminal is moving normally but there will be updates throughout the day.
We are saddened to hear about the whale that washed up near our terminal at Tsawwassen this morning. We’d like to let our customers know that traffic is flowing normally at this time. We will provide updates throughout the day. #BCFerries #BCFHeadsUp ^kb
