RCMP have launched a homicide investigation after human remains found near Campbell River were identified as 21-year-old Joshua Munro.
On Feb. 22, human remains were found in a rural area outside the city. On Tuesday, police said the remains had been positively identified as Munro.
According to police, the circumstances of Munro’s death are being treated as a homicide. Police said they believe the death was a targeted incident and the general public is not considered to be at risk.
Munro’s family has been notified of his death.
“This is a major investigation that will take time to follow-up on leads and uncover all facts surrounding the death of Joshua.” Cpl. Ron Vlooswyk of the Campbell River RCMP Detachment said in a release. “To avoid jeopardizing the investigation, we cannot give additional information at this time.”
