The Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) is working through a phased reopening of all its stores across Canada and is getting set to open the stores in British Columbia this week.
On Tuesday, Hudson’s Bay stores will reopen across the province with enhanced health and safety protocols and modified services to ensure the safest possible shopping experience for customers and associates.
“As we reopen our Hudson’s Bay stores, the health and well-being of our associates and customers remain at the forefront of every decision we make,” said Iain Nairn, President, Hudson’s Bay. “We will continue to take direction from government and public health experts, and have implemented a number of added measures to ensure we deliver a healthy, easy, and comfortable shopping experience. We sincerely look forward to welcoming customers back to Hudson’s Bay.”
The HBC said in a press release that customers can expect enhanced cleaning practices, directional signage on floors for easy navigation and physical distancing, and adjusted in-store services like beauty sampling.
The company said it will operate on reduced hours daily from 12 pm – 5 pm. Every Tuesday, stores will open an hour early, at 11 am, specifically for frontline workers, seniors and those with disabilities.
According to the release, the company is adding curbside pickup at most locations and an altered return policy “whereby any purchase made after January 17, 2020 can be returned to Hudson’s Bay stores within 30 days of reopening.”
The HBC’s website also suggests there will be hand sanitizer stations located throughout stores.
Here on Vancouver Island, there are a total of three HBC locations, including two in Victoria and one in Nanaimo.
Along with the British Columbian locations, stores in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia will also be reopening on May 19.
The decision by HBC aligns with Phase Two of the BC Restart Plan, unveiled by Premier John Horgan earlier this month.
