Esquimalt firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire on Friday afternoon.

Esquimalt firefighters responded to the blaze at around 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of Craigflower Road.

Esquimalt Fire Chief Chris Jancowski said upon arrival, Esquimalt crews saw fire and smoke, even from a distance. Victoria, CFB Esquimalt and View Royal were then called for mutual aid.

“We had a very quick, successful knockdown from the fire,” Jancowski said.

Jancowski said the fire appears to have started outside on the back side of the deck before moving to the attic.

No one was injured and one pet is unaccounted for. Traffic was backed up on Craigflower Road while fire crews were on scene.
