There was an extremely close call along the Gorge on Friday afternoon, after a massive oak tree came crashing down, narrowly missing a home in Saanich.
The tree could be seen nearly split in two around 2 p.m., with half falling on the homeowner’s yard while the other half crashed across two driveways.
The branches of the tree brushed against a neighbour’s parked vehicle, but didn’t land on the car itself.

No one was injured and there was no significant property damage.
Those who watched the tree fall say they heard a loud crack, followed by a big plume of dust.
According to a witness who spoke to a neighbour, the fallen tree had been an ongoing concern for residents.
Saanich crews could be seen at the home on Friday afternoon assessing the cleanup and directing traffic.
