More and more companies are dedicating resources towards the fight against COVID-19 and one of the latest to join the cause is the Canadian hockey company Bauer.

Bauer has announced that it is modifying its production line to make protective visors for doctors, nurses and first responders.

The hockey company, which is renowned for producing visors in the sport, will create the protective medical equipment at the company’s site in Blainville, Que.

In a tweet sent from the company’s official Twitter account, Bauer announced the news adding “Protection that allows athletes to give everything for their team is our heritage…right now we’re all on the same page.”

After the news was released, Bauer’s vice-president of products, Dan Bourgeois, revealed he has already received calls from Montreal police, firefighters and hospitals interested in the products.

Bourgeois says the company decided to adapt its hockey visor production after hearing Premier François Legault say manufacturers in Quebec could have a role to play if supplies of protective equipment run low.

Another tweet from Bauer also indicates their enthusiasm to play their part.

“We are so grateful for our employees, whose passion and dedication have made this possible. We hope this inspires others to help however they can,” said the official account.

The proposed full-face visors are made of plastic and are said to contain anti-fogging material.

With non-essential businesses ordered closed in Quebec, the company is awaiting authorization from the provincial government before going into production.

Bauer joins other Canadian brands like luxury retailer, Canada Goose, in developing medical supplies during the COVID-19 fight.
