Firefighters say no one was injured following a dramatic house fire in Victoria on Friday evening.
The Victoria Firefighters union (IAFF Local 730) says the emergency call came in just before 6:40 p.m. at a home in the 1600-block of Warren Gardens.
The fire department responded with a large crew, including multiple fire engines, one ladder truck and a battalion.
When firefighters arrived, they hooked up their vehicles to a nearby fire hydrant, but quickly determined that an “aerial monitor” would be the best tool for the job, since flames were coming from the home’s roof.
“Thanks to effective positioning of the apparatus, the volume of water and impressive reach proved to be an effective measure against the flames venting from the roof of the Rockland home,” said the union in a social media post Friday.

After taking time to suppress the fire with the aerial monitor and other hose lines, firefighters eventually entered the home once it was deemed safe to do so.
From there, they made their way to the roof space of the house, where it was “evident the fire was seated,” and once the roof was cleared, the fire was considered extinguished.
Shortly after, a fire inspector was called to the building to try to determine a cause, while a “fire watch crew” remained at the home overnight.
No residents injured
While firefighters were working on the blaze, all occupants of the home were able to escape safely.
When the fire first broke out, the residents were inside the basement suite of the home, far from where the fire originated in the roof, because renovations were being done on the upper floors, according to the union.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt and all occupants made it out safely,” said the union.
“Our hearts go out to the homeowner and those affected.”
