WATCH: As the playoffs loom, Victoria Grizzlies 16 year old forward Alex Newhook has a BCHL scoring title within his grasp.

As of today, Newhook has registered 18 goals, 33 assists and 51 points in just 36 games with the Grizzlies this season.

The St. Johns, Newfoundland product is just two points behind the league’s current leading scorer, Jasper Weatherby, who has played five more games than Newhook has.

Looking back over the last two decades, no rookie has lead the BCHL in scoring. While the Grizzlies rookie sensation plays it down, his teammates are impressed.

“It’s unbelievable,” Grizzlies veteran Jamie Rome says, “I get to see it first hand, him being my centre man, he’s truly an amazing talent and has so much confidence, great guy in the room and I just can’t say enough about him.”

“It’s fun to watch and it’s fun to see a team rally behind him and support him through this good time,” Grizzlies GM and Head Coach Craig Didmon says, “and I think everybody’s getting better out of what’s happening.”

“I think I had a pretty good transition to the league,” Newhook says, “My linemates and teammates have definitely helped with that a lot, yeah I’m getting comfortable in the league and I’m happy with the way I’m playing so far.”
