A GoFundMe has launched online for a Victoria nail salon, which was significantly damaged in a fire last week, considered to be “suspicious” by Victoria Police.

Fire crews were called to KH Silver Nails on Fort Street at 1:53 a.m. last Thursday, April 29, and found significant smoke conditions and moderate fire conditions at the rear of the building.

Fire officials say it appears the blaze sparked at or near the rear of the business. The flames spread to a neighbouring business, damaging a nearby restaurant as well, however, police say there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

The damage is estimated to be approximately $250,000.

An investigation is currently ongoing, however, support for the family-run nail salon has sparked online as customers look to donate in order to help cover some of the damage costs.

“The family who owns this business truly treats their clients like family. They are incredibly generous and kind,” reads the description on the GoFundMe page.

“COVID-19 has uniquely impacted small, locally-owned businesses,” continues the description. “Experiencing theft and having to rebuild only adds to the difficulties that are faced by local businesses.”

A cash box was allegedly stolen from the business as part of the incident as well.

As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe for the nail salon has raised nearly $3,000 as the community sets out to recover the cost of the damages.
