After having door-to-door sales curtailed by the pandemic for the second year in a row, Girl Guides of Canada’s BC Council has revealed their popular cookies will be made available for purchase at London Drugs.

The partnership announced on Wednesday means that the Girl Guide classic chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies will be exclusively available at all London Drugs stores in B.C. as well as online at londondrugs.com

According to Girl Guides of Canada, the cookie fundraiser is the largest source of support for the non-profit organization in BC and this is a way to assure “safe cookie sales” are accessible province-wide.

With the agreement, over $600,000 — through the sale of 120,000 boxes of cookies to London Drugs — will go directly to BC Girl Guides to support their ongoing programs for young girls and women.

“Girl Guides teach adaptability and preparedness to handle unexpected situations with a sense of confidence and self-assuredness. These are the same principles that have been critically important for all of us over the last year,” said Clint Mahlman, London Drugs President and chief operating officer. “Whether you have close ties to the Girl Guides in your own family or not, by purchasing a box of cookies, you are helping build resiliency and future leaders in your community.”

Girl Guides says that the funds raised through the London Drugs partnership will support “programming at the local level as well as inclusion resources and membership subsidies for girls with financial need.”

Additionally, funds will also support new initiatives by the non-profit organization to provide safe outdoor, virtual, and at-home activities that keep Guiding going amid the pandemic protocols.

With this marking the second year that the pandemic has hampered the Girl Guide cookie fundraiser, Diamond Isinger — provincial commissioner for B.C., Girl Guides of Canada — says now more than ever is the time the organization needs funding to keep girls connected.

“Our non-profit Guiding programs are fully volunteer-powered and rely on amazing support from our communities,” noted Isinger. “We are grateful to London Drugs for providing a safe distribution network to sell our cookies, and we are grateful to British Columbians for their continued support through the purchase of Girl Guide cookies.”

The delicious cookies are now available at stores and online, selling for $5.00 per box.
