Residents of Port Alice are uncertain about the future of what once was the town’s main employer.
The dozen remaining employees at Port Alice’s Nuecel Specialty Cellulose mill were told on Wednesday that the company could no longer meet its payroll and workers should go home.
A Unifor representative said the workers on trying to get clarification on what the announcement means for the future of the mill.
For the past four years, there has only been caretaker staff at the mill. At its peak, Nuecel employed almost 400 people.
