Family has identified the truck driver who died in a crash on the Malahat Highway Wednesday morning and has launched an online fundraiser for expenses facing his wife and infant daughter.

According to a GoFundMe created by Seidel’s sister, Jennifer Kurucz, Jonathan Seidel died after a crash between a sewage truck and an SUV in the southbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway near the Goldstream Boat House at around 8 a.m. Seidel was a driver who worked for DBL Disposal Services.

The GoFundMe says Seidel, 36, leaves behind his wife Randa and two-month-old daughter Hazel. The money raised through the GoFundMe is set to go toward funeral expenses, as well as other costs facing Seidel’s wife and his baby daughter. The GoFundMe page has a goal of $25,000.

Officials have not confirmed the name of the person who died in the collision.

West Shore RCMP said the driver of the sewage truck was found dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was injured and taken to hospital.

The BC Coroners Service has said the driver was a man in his 30s.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
